A recent Twitter exchange between Congressman Jim Moylan and high-profile Republican colleague Rep. Matt Gaetz has sparked attention, centering on a less-than-flattering mention of Guam during a congressional session.
The exchange began when Gaetz strongly opposed the construction of a new FBI headquarters in Washington, D.C., citing concerns over its $300 million cost.
During the session, Gaetz questioned whether the FBI was in a state of disrepair and expressed reservations about building a new facility. This triggered a response from Moylan's ‘X’ account.
In a subsequent post on ‘X,’ Gaetz expanded on his opposition, stating, "I oppose moving the FBI to any S.E.C state. Too close to my beloved Florida. I hear Alaska is lovely. Maybe Guam?"
The reference to Guam caught the attention of Moylan, who responded promptly on the same platform
Moylan's response read, "I will gladly accept an increased presence of FBI, ICE, and CBP on Guam to help strengthen our borders. I would also like to invite you to join me in my district so you can see first-hand the importance of Guam's proximity with our nation's defense. Oh, and the island is quite lovely."
The exchange highlights the ongoing discussions regarding the role of U.S. territories in national defense and security. Guam, being a strategically located territory, plays a vital role in the country's defense posture, and Moylan's response emphasizes its significance.
As of now, there is no indication whether Rep. Gaetz has accepted Moylan's invitation or if the conversation will continue.
