A 15-year-old girl was taken into police custody Thursday in connection to violent threats that surfaced online this week.

The alleged threats claimed a shooting would occur at George Washington High School.

Authorities have been investigating and the Guam Department of Education has implemented strict safety measures in response to include a ban on school bags at the Mangilao campus.

The teen is arrested on suspicion of terroristic conduct, terrorizing, and obstruction of governmental functions.

She is being held at the Department of Youth Affairs.

Guam police said the threat was published on a social media account which was shortly after seen by a witness who screenshot the post and used it to notify school personnel in fear
of danger to students and staff.

“This ordeal has weighed heavily on our school community, and I am thankful for the immense patience of our students, employees, parents, and community,” said GWHS Principal Dexter Fullo. “We are grateful to the local law enforcement agencies who were able to close this case. We would like to remind the public that GWHS does not tolerate any behavior that threatens the safety and wellness of our school community or disrupts the operations of the schools and other agencies.”

Today, GDOE announced they would be extending the security measures at the home of the Geckos through next Friday, Oct. 27.

School resource officers and police are also stationed at the school, according to GDOE spokesperson Michelle Franquez.
