Guam's Heather Makalani Manley is currently doing her thing in Moulin Rouge on Broadway and with such a platform as a Broadway performer, she wanted to help out an organization here on Guam that is dear to her, the Boonie Flight Project.
"I love what they're doing. I follow them on Instagram and TikTok and I've seen what they do," she said. "It really moved me so I wanted to find a way to give back and how could I do that from New York City?"
And then that's when it hit her.
"I decided to bring along a bunch of my Broadway friends and we're gonna sing and do a concert, I'm producing it and I'm also singing in it, and all the proceeds go to the Boonie Flight Project," Manley said.
"Broadway for the Boonies" will be held Monday, Oct. 23 at 9:30 pm at the Green Room 42 in New York City and for those on Guam or anywhere for that matter, you can watch the live stream of the concert. For Guam, the concert will stream at 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 24. You can purchase the link for only $19, which goes to the Boonie Flight Project.
"See some Broadway talent straight from your home and she might make an appearance, this little boonie dog...she's from Guam as well," Manley said.
Her fur-baby, Lupa, has been enjoying the Big Apple, is a rescue from Guam Animals In Need. And Lupa was the inspiration behind this concert.
"I just think about what an amazing dog she is," Manley said. "And she's a rescue, I got her when she was 5 months old and I just think about all those other dogs that could have a chance of being a lovely dog for another family. So she is definitely an inspiration. I love her so much and I'm a huge animal lover. I would want to give back and hopefully have someone else in the states have a boonie dog and see what amazing pets they are."
And if you purchase the link to the live stream, you will be in for a treat!
"I actually have a couple of my own co-stars from 'Moulin Rouge,' I also have the current leads of 'Aladdin' and 'Here Lies Love. 'Here Lies Love' is an all-Filipino musical on Broadway. Having Aladdin and Jasmine sing as well. There is another show called 'Six' which is huge, they are going to be there as well. That's just a few and we're gonna have some pop music, some music theater, some jazz, some Broadway, so it's gonna be a very eclectic night of music."
Show support for this concert, head over to thegreenroom42.com and it will take you to a page that says 'tickets & shows.' once you click that, look for the event- 'Broadway for the Boonies. Again, just $19 for pure musical fun.
"I just want to say thank you to GAIN and the boonie flight project and everyone involved," Manley said. "I think what you guys are doing is so incredible and it's about time we have an organization like that that cares about the animals on Guam. "You guys are truly an inspiration...I hope we get to work together some more... I really hope we can raise enough money to make a change."
