The Joint Information Center reports that the DPHSS Chief Medical Officer and Territorial Epidemiologist and the Acting Chief Medical Examiner, have been conducting a review of all possible COVID-19 related deaths. This process resulted in the classification of two additional deaths as COVID-19-related and has brought Guam’s current COVID-19-related death count to 136.
The 135th fatality occurred on Sept. 23, 2020. The patient was a 51-year-old female with underlying health conditions. She was admitted to the U.S. Naval Hospital Guam on Aug. 28, 2020, and tested positive upon admission.
The 136th death occurred on Jan. 11, 2021. The patient was a 80-year-old female with underlying health conditions. She was admitted to the Guam Memorial Hospital on Nov. 29, 2020 and tested positive upon admission. The patient passed at home after being discharged from GMH.
“The passing of a loved one is never easy, but it can be especially difficult given the uncertainties still surrounding COVID-19. We hope these families find some comfort, and Jeff, Josh, and I send our deepest condolences and sympathies,” said Governor Lou Leon Guerrero.
The JIC also confirms that out of 347 test samples taken on April 1, two came back positive for COVID-19. Of the new cases, one had recently traveled and was identified in quarantine. This brings the total of officially reported cases of COVID-19 to 7,812 since March of last year, 27 cases in active isolation and 7,649 not in active isolation. The COVID hospital census shows one is currently hospitalized. The CAR score is 0.2.
As far as vaccination numbers, a total of 86,840 doses have been administered. 54,863 have received their first doses while 31,977 are fully vaccinated.
