A police chase in a stolen car led to the arrest of Cody J. Cruz, 21, and Shaenita Elayne Pangelinan, 22.
On the morning of June 8, police spotted a stolen black Toyota 4Runner at the intersection of Route 1 and 3 in Dededo. They activated their sirens and followed. Cruz, who was driving with a passenger, didn't stop and instead led police on a chase, court documents state. Cruz then ran off a roadway, struck a vehicle and collided with a fence.
According to court documents, his passenger didn't know why they were being stopped although Cruz allegedly told her to run if he was caught.
The 4Runner was reported stolen in April. The victim said Pangelinan took it and refused to give it back. The 4Runner also was involved in a theft of services complaint at the Piti 76/Circle K gas station in Piti where Cruz admitted his card was declined at the register for $50.25 worth of gas and left without paying, court documents state.
Pangelinan was charged with Theft of a Motor Vehicle, while Cruz was charged with Theft of by Receiving, Eluding a Police Officer and Theft of Services.
