Pair arrested for drug possession, intent to distribute
Alexandro Takai and Zachary Cruz were arrested on Oct. 5 after police allegedly discovered money and drugs during a traffic stop.
Cruz was driving while Takai was in the passenger seat when the vehicle was pulled over. Takai exited the vehicle and went inside La Familia Mart, according to court documents.
Police searched Cruz and found $1,293 on him. Court documents state he was interviewed and told police he was not a drug dealer.
When police located Takai, they searched him and found a glass pipe, a scale, plastic baggies, and approximately 1.75 grams of methamphetamine on him, court documents state.
Takai told police he was getting a ride from Cruz when the pair was pulled over. He alleges Cruz threw the paraphernalia at him and said, "Nao, take care of this," assuming Cruz wanted him to conceal it, court documents state.
Cruz and Takai were each charged with one count of Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Substance with Intent to Distribute as a first degree felony and one count of Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Substance as a third degree felony.
