Japanese company sentenced for dumping in Apra Harbor
Fukuichi Gyogyo Kabushiki Kaishi was sentenced in District Court today for two violations of the Act to Prevent Pollution from ships and one count of obstruction of an agency proceeding
Under a plea deal, the company will be banned from U.S. waters and ports for five years and will pay a $1.5 million dollar fine.
The charges stem from April when the company's fishing vessel pulled into Apra Harbor and dumped oil, and trash directly into the waters. They also tried to cover up their actions by not keeping accurate records on their disposal.
