They were the headlining act for the recent Freedom Rocks Festival held at Polaris Point. KUAM News sat down for a chat with some of the members of The Majority.

The Las Vegas-based contemporary reggae band is a collection of diversely talented musicians formed by guitarist and background vocalist Elan Markos and Kennedy King, lead singer and rhythm guitarist.

"It really just started with he had an idea and I was just beginning to write and he was working on his music and I was working on mine," King said. "I ended up sending music to him and he ended up sending the final product back and I fell in love with it. I was like, hey, let's do something."

"All the pieces of the band, everyone does their own thing," Markos said. "Everyone has their own side projects but the whole goal of The Majority was to create one platform, one superband and the one thing we have in common is the love for reggae music."

Joining Markos and King are: Barry Black, Isak Lopez, Renaldo Elliott, and Matthew Honda.

All members reside in Las Vegas but hail from different Polynesian islands including Hawaii and Samoa. The Majority Infuses reggae with many musical genres pulling elements from R&B, Pop, Hip Hop,Country, and Rock, bringing all of their influences into a melting pot of positive music. The band is part of the 2nd Annual Heat Wave Summer Tour Series presented by Armed Forces Entertainment and is the largest tour of the year and Guam was their first stop.

"We've played music for Armed Forces entertainment before and we released our first album on March 1st called "Love &" and Frank at Armed Forces Entertainment asked if we could take this band out on this Heat Wave tour because they wanted to put in a reggae band, so it was perfect," Markos said. "I was like, yes! Yes please, put us out!"

After Guam, they head off to do shows in Okinawa, Iwakuni, Sasebo, and Oahu. It has been a great experience for the band, especially for King who is traveling abroad for the first time.

"It's an honor and a privilege to play for the men and women that serve our country," King said.

In between sound checks, they did get in some time to grab some dinner.

"We went to a Jamaican restaurant last night, oh my gosh...shout out to Jamaican Grill," Markos said. "That was the best ever. We all came home so happy."

Although their time was brief, Guam has left a lasting impression on the guys.

"Guam has been delivering and I'm absolutely in love with Guam," King said. "Guam really emphasized loving...the Hafa Adai spirit, that's what I'm gonna take with me...spreading more love and positivity around the world. Thank you, Guam."
