So why does Tom Garcia wear pink? "Well, not only is Chevrolet a big sponsor, also at the same time I just wanted to help out, after hearing all the stories, how close it got to my family, it made me want to do something," he explained.
Garcia says he has a cousin that is a breast cancer survivor and in February of this year, his brother Nolly was diagnosed with prostate cancer. It is in honor of them that he joins the Real Men Wear Pink campaign this year. "Knowing that I know, or the family knows, it kind of brought us up to...wow, this is really happening. He's very strong and I'm glad that he's in good spirits. Because if anything that will make him thrive through what he needs to do," he said.
Upon hearing the news of his brother's diagnosis, so many questions came to mind. "Wwhat do you do? What do you say? But most importantly, how can we assist them? Like fundraisers, or comforting them...how we can basically assist as a family," he said.
The Real Men Wear Pink campaign is designed to give men a greater role in the fight against breast cancer and use the power of pink. Garcia added, "The thing about this is bringing awareness. Bringing awareness to the community, to the people that are affected."
He along with many others continue to help fight the good fight with hope that a cure can be found.
