USS Fitzgerald's CO, XO, command master chief relieved of duty

New details have been revealed about that tragic collision between the USS Fitzgerald and a container ship. It happened in the waters off Japan back in June.

The Navy reporting today that the commanding officer, the executive officer and the command master chief of the guided missile destroyer have been relieved of their duties.

A number of officers and enlisted watch standers were also held accountable.

This comes after a thorough review of the incident.

The collision claimed the lives of seven Fitzgerald sailors.

The USS Fitzgerald has been to Guam before most recently participating in the Multisail 2017 bilateral training exercise back in March.

Commander Garret Miller will assume command of the Navy vessel later this month.
