Just like a nice home-cooked meal from mom's place - that's the idea behind a restaurant opening Wednesday in Tamuning. The name Three Squares, according to co-owner Marie Guerrero, actually comes from their military background...three square meals a day.
And really, it's just good food, she says, that local folks will identify with. "Kind of like mom's kitchen in the back, with a great executive chef. Everything from here is from scratch. Nothing comes out of a box, so whatever you grew up with, stuff you had at your home, is what you can expect here," she said.
Business partner Mark Borja says there's something for everyone, they have specially marinated steaks. Try the tinaktak he says, and more. "We also have a meatloaf, too. Something when you come home you want to have some comfort food, it's like a meatloaf we have that available, as well. But nothing that breaks the bank. You want to bring the family down and have a great time and be able to leave here and feel good about it."
The business partners cut their teeth at top Tumon restaurants like Roy's and Planet Hollywood. Starting as servers and bussers they worked their way up to management. Along the way they learned a lot about the food business and what people like. More recently they've run a successful catering business, but they've always wanted to own their own restaurant.
"I think for me that was validation, it showed that hey we can do this. We felt good about it, so take that leap of faith," said Borja.
Three Squares is located along Chalan San Antonio and is open for breakfast , lunch and dinner.
