Inarajan 3-x-3 Basketball Tournament in May
The Inarajan Mayor's Office is pleased to announce the Inaugural Inarajan 3-x-3 Basketball Tournament to be held from May 1-3. The tournament will run alongside other activities during Inarajan Fiesta weekend and will be played at the newly renovated courts located next to St. Joseph's Church. The main goal of the tournament is to promote fitness, sportsmanship, and to promote basketball and the 3X3 format in the southern community.
Tournament coordinator Dominic Sablan told KUAM Sports, "Inarajan Fiesta will be hosting its first 3 on 3 annual basketball tournament and we are looking at 16, 18 and men's open division. We are capping the divisions off at 8 teams per division. The last day to register is this coming Thursday. To register, team captains are to go to www.3x3planet.com and create your player profile and sign your team up under the event."
The tournament is sanctioned by FIBA 3X3 and all participants will create a FIBA player profile. The athletes will also be able to track their progress and build their ranks amongst the rest of the world. The tournament will be using standard FIBA 3X3 rules and regulations with a shot clock. 3X3 Basketball is a relatively new format and was added to the Youth Olympic Games last year which was a huge success.
Prizes will be awarded to the youth divisions and monetary prizes will be awarded to the Open division teams. Interested teams are asked to contact Dominic Sablan at 929-7264 or via email at dsablan32@gmail.com.
Sablan added, "We are trying to promote southern basketball with a newly renovated court and the community center all over the south. We feel the juice is flowing so we feel that this is a god opportunity to go ahead and promote southern basketball as well as 3 x 3 format. I reached out to secretary general of Guam Basketball Confederation Mr. Tony Thompson and we were able to sanction this tournament under FIBA. So players will have a chance to rank up, not just on the island but against the rest of the world. And proceeds will benefit the Inarajan Basketball Club.
"We would like to thank Guam Basketball Confederation, MC Krautz Restauarant, Buenas Yan Hafa Adai, Senator Tommy Morrison and the Municipal Planning Council of Inarajan for helping us put this tournament together!"
