Their daughter Alyssa Paulino was also diagnosed with the same disease and battled her illness since 2013 spending countless hours going through chemotherapy, brain surgery, battling infection and undergoing a transplant and while Alyssa initially amazed doctors at how well her body was responding to the transplant three months later she was diagnosed with graft versus host disease as the donor cells began to attack organs in her body. Infection then set in her lungs by December 31st 2014 Alyssa's health had deteriorated rapidly and according to her mother things suddenly changed.
Unable to bear their daughter's suffering Steve and Leslie made the difficult decision to stop everything. On New Years Day Alyssa took her last breath after putting up a strong fight. Now her family is turning to the community for support, "All we want to do is take our daughter home to Guam and bury her with our son who had the same illness." Leslie says her daughter's passing was somewhat unexpected as they had many hopes that she would make it through. Revealing that this is their third child they have to lay to rest and has been less then two years that Steve Jr was laid to rest and without being able to properly grieve for their son they now must bury their daughter.
"All we want is if people can find it in their hearts to contribute to our go fund me or whatever mileage they have to donate to us we truly appreciate it," she said.
While the family is hoping to depart Los Angeles no later than the 9th of this month Leslie says they will leave once they are able to get the funding. She says there are no words or gratitude that they can ever give but are truly appreciative for everything and will always remember it in their hearts and hopefully one day can give back more than they received.
