Guam in COR1 as flooding, debris renders some roads impassable

Guam - Governor Eddie Calvo declared Guam to be in Condition of Readiness 1 at 8am, meaning destructive winds of 65 miles per hour are possible within the next 12 hours.. According to the latest weather bulletin from the National Weather Service Tropical Storm Halong is heading between Guam and Rota. A tropical storm warning and typhoon watch remains in effect for Guam. The closest point of approach is now anticipated for around noon today.Tropical Storm Halong is located about 60 miles E-NE of Guam. Maximum sustained winds are 65 miles per hour. The storm is moving west at 12 miles per hour. GHS/ OCD reports several impassable roads due to flooding or downed vegetation from Tropical Storm Halong.

The affected roads include:

·         Route 4 in Merizo by Barcinas residence
·         Route 6 in Piti by Veterans cemetery
·         Route 1 by the Ben Franklin building in Tamuning
·         Route 1 by the K-mart intersection in Upper Tumon
·         Route 1 by Salisberry St.in Dededo
·         Route 10A near the airport

Flooding in Tumon has also been reported by the front of the GPD Tumon-Tamuning Precinct and Fujita Road. Motorists are advised to drive cautiously and if possible, stay off the roads until weather conditions clear up. Please report all road conditions to the Joint Information Center at 478-0210
