Guam - Starting next week, residents could see a stronger police presence during daytime hours within the villages.
Operation Spear, which is short for Saturation Patrol Enforcement Area Research, will target villages that are already prone to crime. Guam Police Department Chief of Police Fred Bordallo said, "We want some visibility. We want people to know that while they're at work police are around their neighborhoods and concentrating in these areas. I'm going to ensure that as they do these operations they'll be working with the mayor as they're starting their operations."
At a press briefing this afternoon, Bordallo also adds that a Drug Treatment and Law Enforcement Fund was established by law back in 1995, but may be sitting idle with no activity reported on the account.
He says GPD is looking further as such fines meant to be deposited in this account are meant to assist the Department of Corrections, the Judiciary of Guam, GPD, and the Guam Behavioral Health and Wellness Center.
