Guam - The 2014 Miller Football League is scheduled to kick off this Friday night at Angels Field in Dededo. The Angels hit the field in the first game against the newly formed Knights in the season opener at 7:00 pm at the Wettengel Field.
Steve Phillips, Angels Q.B., said, "Hal's Angels were coming up and we are getting better every year. We have come up short a couple of years in a row but this year we are pretty hungry for a championship. It starts out Friday night at Angels Field and this year we have a bunch of new players a new band of brothers and we look to just come out here and play Hal's Angel's football from the get go to the end of the game."
The Angels have been around the league for a long time establishing themselves as contenders every year. Running back Marvin Manibusan says the team is coming together at the right time.
Manibusan said, "The 2014 season is looking real good for us, we have a lot of numbers that are coming out and we are excited to come out and practice every night. We have been working really hard and we have been coming to practice every day and getting the timing and getting the reps in. Working on our offense and working on our defense. Everything is looking real good and we are starting to jell a lot more right now, so we are just really ready to come out and play on Friday night. I guess you can say we have home field advantage so the Angels are going to come out really hard this season."
Facing the Angels will be the Knights who are comprised of different players throughout the league. The defense will be the strength of the team with veteran player Gavin West helping lead the secondary.
Gavin West, Knights Safety, said, "We have players from other teams that pretty much came together. It's like a gumbo mix of players, ash and trash of the league. We are just trying to come together and do something great for the league and make the league interesting. In the past the last team has been a push over team from previous teams I've played on and we just want to show them a new regime. The red team is nothing to be played with this year, so just be ready for us to play ball because we are coming hard and we are ready to do some serious damage in this league."
The offense for the Knights will be lead by quarterback Corey Chin who makes his debut into the MFL. Chin says the team will be ready come Friday night.
Corey Chin with the Knights said, "This is our first year as a team and we have our first game coming up on Friday. We are definitely playing a tough team in the Hals's Angels, a very good program and very good football team so we are looking forward to a good game. They are going to have home field advantage but we are going to their home turf so we are just looking forward to a really good game."
