Guam - The Guam Amateur Baseball held select team tryouts at the Leo Palace Field over the weekend. Players 19 years and older came out to take part in the tryouts. Those that are selected to the team will be competing on and off island in tournaments including the 2013 National Amateur Baseball World Series next Oct in Arizona.
Justin Bennett, league coordinator, said, "It's basically a team where we can play both on island and off island. We are looking for players 19 and above. Really we aren't looking for the national team players but if we can coordinate with both programs we are taking any players 19 and above who want to play competitive off island tournament style baseball. We'll have training and development. Over the next year we hope to play in 2 or 3 tournaments here on Guam in addition to the tournament in the states. The Amateur World Series in October and any other opportunities that come along. There are plenty of colleges in the Philippines, China and in the region that want to come here and play ball. So we'd like to put a team together and make it competitive so we will be ready whenever anybody asks to play."
If anyone is interested in trying out for the team you can check out either Strike Zone location. The one in Agana or the one directly across the Micronesia Mall where the batting cages are or come out to the next tryouts that are scheduled for the first week of January.
