JGPO will present update

by Ken Quintanilla

Guam - Island leaders will get an update on the Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement on Thursday. Joint Guam Program Office deputy director Major Darren Alvarez extended an invitation to Adelup, lawmakers and island mayors.

In anticipation of a new SEIS Notice of Intent, to be published this Friday, the briefing will cover new changes to this notice. The SEIS officially began in February this year to assess where to place the live-fire training range complex on Guam.

In April, a new agreement between the United States and the Government of Japan reduced the number of Marines coming to Guam to approximately 5,000.

Tomorrow's SEIS briefing meanwhile is meant to kick off the scoping period for the new SEIS.

Public scoping meetings are tentatively set for November 8-10.
