Jury reaches verdict for Alex Castro

Guam - After a week of trial and after six hours of deliberation the jury found Alex Castro not guilty on a charge of 2nd degree aggravated assault as a felony. He was however found guilty on a charge of 3rd degree aggravated assault as a felony and reckless conduct as a misdemeanor.
The mixed martial arts fighter was accused of hitting navy sailor Jarrett Dunham at a nightclub in Tumon in February 2010.

During this morning's closing arguments Gerald Henderson told jurors "the one thing he is crystal clear about Alex Castro steps up with his left fist and hit the right side of his face. Dunham's been through some pretty intense training, he jumps out of helicopters into 15 foot waves, that's what he does for a living this is the worst, hardest he'd ever been hit.

Castro's Attorney Tom Fisher meanwhile told jurors his client is innocent "there's Alex at 5'5" tall and Alex supposedly, a right hander, swings with his left fist reaches up and connects with Mr. (Dunham's) eye full on. Now Alex's reach could not have reached his eye. Castro was remanded to the custody of the Department of Corrections pending posting $5,000 cash bail for a robbery case he's been charged in connection to.

Castro is scheduled to be sentenced during the first week of August.
