Guam - Security Title held the grand opening for its new building in Tamuning today. And while seen as an investment in Guam, the building also creates an energy efficient environment for its employees and customers.
Security Title has helped Guam's families and businesses in the purchase of their homes through title and escrow services for the past 12 years. President Kim Anderson Young says with its new building, she wanted to develop a permanent home here on island, noting, "We wanted someplace that felt professional and upbeat that we really like coming to because we spend most of our working hours here. We wanted a place where our staff would feel comfortable and our customers would feel comfortable."
The 8,000+ square foot building was formerly the Guam Sanko Bus Repair, which has since been revitalized and updated into a loft-style office with LEED certification. Additionally, sunlight fills the new building through its windows that were positioned to maximize the use of natural light with the windows themselves made of high efficiency glass that reflects heat away from the building.
Secretary/treasurer and Kim's husband Ronald Young told KUAM News, "We have no lights and at six o'clock at night when our employees go home, we will still have no lights on, so I think it will save a lot of money that way even though we have LED lights in all the fixtures."
He adds the company is doing its best to conserve energy by installing the most energy-efficient air conditioning system available and paired it with new insulation in the building's walls, roofs and ceilings reducing its energy use for climate control. Ultimately, the couple believes the building is an investment in Guam that will serve local families and businesses on Guam and the CNMI for years to come.
Ron said, "We're on an island and we don't have limitless resources, so we have to take advantage of what we got and we got to recycle what we can and we have to use what we can and be as conservative as possible. And Kim added, "And what affects one it affects all here."
