Guam - Homeland Security investigations and the Treasury Executive Office for Assets Forfeiture awarded more than $647,000 to Guam Customs and Quarantine. The award was made under the Treasury Department's equitable sharing program.
In February 2008, Guam Customs caught two passengers off a flight from Manila who had more than $800,000 in drug proceeds in false bottoms of their checked baggage.
U.S. attorney for Guam and the CNMI Alicia Limtiaco said, "For all of the hard work and effort put forward by Guam Customs and Quarantine working with Homeland Security investigations, another federal and local partners in the investigation, prosecution and convictions of two individuals who were charged and convicted of bulk cash smuggling and distribution or importation of methamphetamine."
The award amount equals 80 percent of the total seized and forfeited.
