Guam - The Justice Department is not pleased with the Guam Waterworks Authority's approval of a conditional permit for the Younex Workforce Housing Project. In a status report filed with the District Court of Guam the feds argue GWA "simply approved Phase 1 without any requirement that Younex identify an available source of drinking water or consider the quality of that water."
The DOJ also contends GWA's action on the Younex permit does not properly consider the impact on the Northern Guam Lens aquifer due to over pumping and contamination of groundwater. The feds also argue GWA knows full well that the Northern District Waste Water Treatment Plant does not have the capacity to treat the additional wastewater that would be generated by the workforce housing project.
