Guam - The University of Guam is doing more and more to become green. UOG's Green Initiative to promote and raise awareness of recycling, energy efficiency and alternate energy is getting a very green boost.
UOG green interns are being trained on how to measure and analyze energy consumption at the Mangilao campus. The energy audit training is an effort to generate campus awareness and interest in improving energy efficiency and reducing energy consumption from traditional sources.
Entech's Dr. James W. Cafky is conducting the training giving UOG green interns valuable energy auditing skills such as learning how to analyze Guam Power Authority electric bills, learning the basics of electric power and identifying major sources of inefficiency in campus buildings.
Once their done, the interns will put their training to the test as officials say they will measure energy consumption in the buildings at the university's campus. In turn the interns will generate energy reports to be shared with management of each building.
The energy reports will have detailed information about current energy use as well as recommendations to fix any problems that are identified. Once the evaluations of the buildings at the Mangilao campus are completed, the interns will generate cost-benefit analyses of potential energy conservation measures.
