Before I jump into my glowing review of "Toy Story 3", let me inform you on a valuable promotion going on this summer. From now until mid August, movies at Tango Theatres are $5.00 if you use your Citibank credit card. Any movie, any time. That's quite a value so be sure to break out the plastic every time you want to catch a flick.
This week, I was blessed with the opportunity to catch "Toy Story 3" - the final installment of Pixar Animation's breakthrough franchise. 15 years removed since "Toy Story" garnered movie of the year recognition, the series finally comes to a halt in 2010. Andy is now 17 years old and ready to embark on his college experience. But has he finally outgrown the toys that he loved?
"Toy Story 3" is a story of letting go and remembering the past. Pixar has always been recognized for putting together well-spun stories and emotional plot lines and "Toy Story 3" is no different. The plot is very thick, funny and exciting. While all this is enjoyable, what is truly remarkable is the subtle depth that the film embarks on its viewers. Basic fundamentals of friendship and humanity are deftly strewn around the film and provide emotional impact on both child and adult alike. The film's staple characters like Woody and Buzz are all back and the new characters introduced in the film are developed very quickly. The interactions between the characters and the innovative sequences make the team thoroughly enjoyable and comedic.
"Toy Story 3" is a powerful and well-developed film. While I do not think it is Pixar's best work, it is pretty darn close, and definitely the best of the trilogy. Get your money's worth this weekend and catch it at the Tango Theatres in either the Micronesia Mall or Agana Shopping Center.
5 out of 5 stars.
