Starring: Jackie Earl Haley
The legendary horror cult icon Freddy Krueger returns in Samuel Bayer's revision of "Nightmare On Elm Street." Unfortunately for Bayer and movie-goers, the real nightmare is that someone stole $8 and 95 minutes of your life when they tricked you into watching this flick.
The 2010 version of "Nightmare on Elm Street" blends all the elements of the previous films in the series and presents a new history to the origin on Freddy Krueger (Jackie Earl Haley). The movie pays tribute to the series with a variety of death scenes similar to its predecessors. However, the movie falls apart at the seams.
What made the original such a classic was its ability to effectively blend the dream sequences with the real sequences of its screenplay. This kept viewers glued to the screen and on edge. The remake does its best to emulate this effect but, falls short of the mark. There is nothing new or improved with the 2010 "Nightmare" - in fact, the 2010 version has a poorer script and poorer acting.
Sometimes, we as horror fans can overlook the shortfalls of classic remakes for the sake of nostalgia. However, the 2010 version "Nightmare on Elm Street" is a poorly made rehash. Wes Craven's classic deserves better homage than what is in theaters this May. Do yourself a favor, and take your$8 to Blockbuster, rent the 1984 version of the film, and buy yourself some popcorn.
