Drifters tear up the asphalt at Smokin' Wheels

Guam - Smokin' Wheels came to a close Sunday afternoon with the 4th and final round of the 2010 Proline Amateur Drift Series Presented by Monster Energy Drink and the kick-off of Round 1 of the Proline Professional Drift Series, presented by Monster.

In the Amateur Series:

Competitors were judged on a Best out of 5 solo runs. The judges were Tom Akigami (Guam Drifting Association  President) Lee Webber (GDA  Board Member), and special guest Judge Kenji Yamanaka (Professional Formula-D Driver)  All showed impressive skill drawing attention to almost all in attendance at the Shell V-Power Smokin Wheels.

Leo Murciano, swept the competition taking first place again making him the series champion!

 

The Results:

1st: Leo Murciano 246 pts

2nd: Anthony Leygo 235 pts

3rd: Jack Leung 220 pts

4th: Brian Garcia 202 pts

5th: Bryan Mejares 188 pts

6th: Craig Hollingsworth 110 pts

 

2010 Proline Amateur Drift Series Point standings:

1.)Leo Murciano: 20 + 20 + 20 + 20 =80

2.)Craig Hollingsworth: 0 + 16 + 18 + 10 = 44

3.)Brian Garcia: 0 + 18 + 10 + 14 = 42

4.)Fred Baldwin: 16 + 10 + 16 + 0 = 42

5.)Brian Mejares: 14 + 14 + 0 + 12 = 40

6.)Anthony Laygo: 18 + 0 + 0 + 18 = 36

6.)Ark Barrogo: 12 + 0 + 14 + 0 = 26

7.)James Padua: 0 + 12 + 12 + 0 = 24

8.)Brent Rosier: 10 + 6 + 0 + 0 = 16

9.)Jack Leung: 0 + 0 + 0 + 16 = 16

10.)Von Burrell: 0 + 8 + 0 + 0 = 8

11.)Ray Guevarra: 0 + 0 + 8 + 0= 8

 

In the Pro Division, things heated up and spectators were on their toes as these boys battled side by side.

 

The Pro division drivers were:

Rex Deseo

Ron Avelino

Pat Pocaigue

Yoshi Goliat

 

Newcomer and 2010 Amateur Champ was Leo Murciano, and talented 2nd place driver from the 4th and final round of the Amateur Series was Anthony Leygo.  Both dove right into the pro division qualifying runs to determine their position for tandem battle.

 

Qualifying results (Best of 3 runs):

1st) Eric Manalo: 269 pts

2nd) Rex Deseo: 262 pts

3rd) Leo Murciano: 250 pts

4th) Pat Pocaigue: 233 pts

5th) Anthony Leygo: 229 pts

6th) Ron Avelino: 218 pts

7th) Yoshi Goliat: 160 pts

 

Tandem Pair off:

1.) Eric Manalo - Automatic advance to Semi Finals

3.) Leo Murciano vs. 6.) Ron Avelino = after 2 sudden death matches, Ron

Avelino advanced with 2pts to face Eric Manalo.

2.) Rex Deseo vs. 7.) Yoshi Goliat = Rex took yoshi with a 9~1 advantage on

the lead run, then a 7~3 on the trailing to advance to the semi finals.

4.) Pat Pocaigue vs. 5.) Anthony Leygo = First run with Pat leading, both

scored a 5~5. second run Anthony took it with a 6~4 win advancing him into

the semi final to face off with Rex Deseo.

 

Semi Final:

Eric vs. Ron = Eric leads first run with 8~2, and follows up as the chase car with a 8~2 victory moving him into the finals.

 

Rex vs. Anthony = Rex leads the run and Anthony spins out giving a 10~0 advantage to Rex, Second run finishes with a 5~5 and Rex moving up to the finals.

 

Battle for 3rd:

Ron vs. Anthony = Ron leads first run with a score of 6~4, on the second run

they both score 5~5. Ron takes the win for 3rd Place.

 

Finals:

Eric vs. Rex = Eric leads and spins out giving Rex the 10 ~ 0 advantage, second run Rex leads and Eric chases and loses focus, straightens out a few times eventually catching up to and colliding with Rex. The judges voted 10~0 Rex to take the win for round 1 of the pro series.
