After suspect leave, GPD's Reyes to retire

by Mindy Aguon

Guam - KUAM News has confirmed that the highest-ranking police officer in the Guam Police Department will officially retire from government service next month.  Police Commander Colonel Joaquin Reyes has spent the last 36 years of his life dedicated to public service.

His decision to retire comes on the heels of being placed on administrative leave with pay for 20 days following a meeting Reyes held with captains in the force.

GPD would not say why Reyes was placed on administrative leave, saying it is a personnel issue.  Reyes meanwhile confirms he will retire effective April 2, saying now is the right time to depart from the police department.
