Shoyoroll tourney features top Cali black belts

by Dave Delgado

Guam - In jiu-jitsu news, the super fight of the Shoyoroll Tournament scheduled for tomorrow morning pits two top black belt competitors from California going at it. Johnny Ramirez and Daren Uyenoyama are a pair of fighters that have trained together in the past but will now get to compete against one another in front of Guam jiu-jitsu fans.

Ramirez told KUAM Sports, "I ended up getting my black belt a little bit before him and he got his black belt recently, so we are finally going to get to be on the mat again and compete. I'm pretty excited about it because since we are a little familiar with each other, there is no holding back, there is no fear, you don't have to worry about not showing a technique or fear of getting caught, so we do have that form of friendship in a way, we can actually go harder than somebody being a total stranger."

Uyenoyama added, "There is no doubt about it, this is my first match competing as a black belt, so he is more of the experienced black belt, but I'm not going to think about it that much, I'm just going to establish my game plan and execute my game plan and work from there, so i think as a competitor that has always been my strong point, trying not to think too much about my opponent."
