Known affectionately as "KUAM's Swiss Army Knife", there isn't too much Jason Salas hasn't done in his 25+ years at the company. Jason's a broadcaster, journalist, sportswriter, filmmaker and software engineer, and his prolific body of work spans mass media, including play-by-play for live sports events, co-anchoring newscasts and talkshows, and producing award-winning digital applications for KUAM News.
He's also our resident goofball. Follow the laughter, and you'll find Jason.
Jason was born on April 24, 1974 and grew up in Dededo, Guam and Waterbury, Connecticut. He graduated from the University of Guam in 1996 with a degree in marketing and earned an MBA in Technology Management from the University of Phoenix in 2001. He was the first person on Guam to be awarded Microsoft's coveted Most Valuable Professional (MVP) designation, receiving it in 2003 and 2004. He has previously won the Society of Professional Journalists award for Best Online Story, and is also a four-time recipient of the prestigious Edward R. Murrow Award for "Best News Web Site" for KUAM.com from the Radio and Television News Directors Association, including the National Murrow Award in 2006. This marked the first time any Guam broadcaster won the national honors.
He's written two books - on football and application development for wearable computing devices, and has a third on the way on digital product management. He's also working on a PhD in software engineering, focusing on his research into deep learning for recommender systems.
