Lawmakers have unanimously passed a bill designed to streamline certifications for veteran educators.

Oversight chair on education Senator Vince Borja’s Bill 199 would grant lifetime teaching certificates to educators with more than 25 years of service in Guam’s public schools.

Borja says the measure eases the certification process for longtime teachers while maintaining high standards—requiring professional development and evaluations every five years. Retired teachers in good standing within the last decade would also be eligible.

The bill is now headed to the governor’s desk for her signature.
