The District Court of Guam and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit is inviting students to take part in the 2026 High School Civics Contest.

In recognition of the upcoming 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, this year’s theme, “Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness: Your Voice. Your Story. Your America,” encourages students to reflect on what these founding ideals mean today.

Entries will be accepted from Jan. 7 through March 6, 2026, and students may submit either an essay or a video exploring the theme.

Cash prizes will be awarded at both the local and circuit levels. Here on Guam, winners will receive $300 for first place, $200 for second, and $100 for third. Those top entries will advance to the Ninth Circuit competition, where prizes range from $1,000 to $3,000.

Organizers encourage students to use this opportunity to share their perspective, celebrate civic understanding, and make their voices heard in a milestone year for America’s history.
