The Guam Housing and Urban Renewal Authority is expanding its outreach this December as hundreds of families in Yigo, Dededo, and villages across the island continue rebuilding from the devastation of Typhoon Mawar.

GHURA is reminding the public that under the Community Development Block Grant–Disaster Recovery Program, eligible homeowners may receive up to $300,000 in financial assistance to repair or fully reconstruct their primary residences. It’s part of the $500.8 million “Fix In Six” initiative — a long-term recovery effort aimed at restoring homes, strengthening communities, and boosting Guam’s resilience.

Phase I focuses on owner-occupied rehabilitation, prioritizing families earning at or below 80% of the area median income — a requirement tied to hud rules that ensure at least 70% of federal disaster recovery funds support low-to-moderate income households. That means displaced residents from dededo and yigo will be first in line, followed by other LMI households impacted by Mawar.

GHURA says its ongoing outreach events serve as direct portals for clarity — helping families understand eligibility, documentation, and the next steps toward finally rebuilding stronger.

The agency adds that this dedicated month of outreach is an opportunity for residents to take a step closer to safer roofs, sturdier walls, and a future fortified against the storms ahead.
