PARS pushes for justice on nuclear fallout

The Pacific Association for Radiation Survivors is renewing its call for justice, as they continue the fight to have Guam included in the federal Radiation Exposure Compensation Act.
The National Academy of Sciences has already concluded that Guam’s people are “downwinders,” exposed to nuclear fallout during US testing in the Pacific between 1946 and 1962. But despite decades of advocacy, island residents remain excluded from the program—left without recognition or compensation for cancers and other illnesses linked to radiation exposure.
PARS president Robert Celestial says the group will hold a presentation this Saturday at 3pm at the Guam Museum Theater to share information on how Guam was impacted, and to remind the public that families continue to lose loved ones because of decisions made in secrecy by their own government.
