No total eclipse for Guam on April 8

Guam may be Where America’s Day Begins, but the day will already have come and gone before the Great American Eclipse passes over on April 8. KUAM News sought the answer to an important question: will we be able to see it?

A total eclipse of the heart - in the sky. It’s dubbed the Great American Eclipse set to put on quite the spectacle on April 8. But, for those living in Guam and CNMI. "That is for certain that we here on Guam here in the Western North Pacific [won't see the total eclipse]," confirmed lead meteorologist Landon Aydlett with the National Weather Service. "We will not see this total solar eclipse that is all the buzz right now. "

It's somewhat of a buzzkill for us here in the Marianas. Aydlett showing us the total eclipse path, saying, "You see it’ll be night time at the time the eclipse is starting and it go right over the Mississippi river area of the US and right up into New England. So the key area of totality is going to be a very narrow swath."

Many of us will be tucked away in bed on the other side of the world. So, for spectators stateside, he said, "They do say when it is maximum or total eclipse that it is safe for that for that very brief moment but better safe than sorry. Keep the glasses on if you’re going to try to witness this in person across the United States."

And once again- the only Guam residents who will see it – are those in Guam, Missouri.
