Bring the family down to celebrate Earth Day this Saturday at Ypao Beach. April is Earth Month and the Department of Agriculture wants you to check the dozens of activities and displays they've put together to share in our natural resources and environment.
We sat down with DOAG officials to talk about what they have in store for tomorrow’s Earth Day Festivities. Coral Reef Management Fellow, Cara Lin shared what the Aquatic and Wildlife Division has in store.
"We’re going to be having some different educational games and activities," she said. "They’re going to be really interactive and great for kids, so I would highly recommend families coming out. Hopefully, we’ll have some great prizes to give out as well.
Division of Aquatic and Wildlife Resources will be having some fishing technique demonstrations. There will be a touch tank set up, so you can touch some different friendly sea creatures and then just other informational booths about the ocean and really celebrating our oceans as a part of Earth Day."

Program Coordinator for Agricultural Development Services, Ursula Herrera says their department will be showcasing some planting and farming activities.
"We are going to have a planting activity, so the kids can plant a variety of crops. Some fruits or some vegetable crops," she said. "We have some peanuts and cucumbers and a variety that they can plant and take home. We also have a DIY make-your-own tea blend. So we’ll have an array of dried flowers and dried herbs that you can pack your own tea blends and take it home, make it at your leisure, everything grown here in our nursery."
Herrera added they’ll also have seedlings for sale, as well as a produce display. You can also ask for some advice as to how you can grow your own crops and produce in your own backyard.
Agriculturalist III and Acting Entomologist from the Biosecurity Division Christopher Rosario, spoke about what they have in store for Saturday’s celebration.
"It involves a honeybee display, everyone has seen quite a bit of that, but after doing it for seven years, I think it’s still kind of a new thing for everyone to see a bee through a glass door," he said. "But something new that we’re coming up with is we’re going to put up a microscope for the kids to take a look at some of the tiniest insects that we often find in our commodities and it will be displayed through a projector."
The Biosecurity Division will also showcase their honey harvesting display where visitors get the chance to eat the actual honeycomb.
You can also register your pet this Saturday if they aren’t registered yet for a small fee of five dollars. Rabies vaccinations will also be available. Other activities also include a snake hunt, ocean trivia, coral bingo and so much more. The Earth Day celebration will be on Saturday, April 23 from 9 a.m to 12:30 p.m. at Ypao Beach in the Tumon Bay Marine Preserve.
