Federal court order comes down in Verona suit

Posted: Updated:

A federal consent decree and order comes down against the Verona Hotel in a discrimination case filed against management. Polaris LLC - Verona's owners - must pay Rita Siguenza $16,000.

Siguenza filed a federal Equal Employment Opportunity Commission complaint against Verona after she was fired in 2014.

She alleges the hotel did not allow her to follow doctor recommendations for her pregnancy-related diabetes. Siguenza alleges Verona discriminated against her on the basis of sex and disability, and the feds filed suit in 2017. Verona must also provide managers with EEO training for managers and employees.

The hotel is also mandated to retain a third-party monitor to verify it is in compliance with EEO.

As we reported, Verona has faced 15 local department of labor wage and hour complaints affecting over a 100 employees since 2013, however local DOL has not issued a single penalty against the hotel or its owner, David Su.
