Filipino businessman Dioceldo Sy invests in new southern golf course

Posted: Updated:

A groundbreaking ceremony was held for a new housing development down south. It's within the Wonderful Resort Golf Course, formerly Windward Hills in Yona. One of the investors is a Filipino businessman who happens to own that country's top-selling cosmetics line.

Dioceldo Sy is a partner in the construction company that has invested and will build the new housing development.

"So these are the first sixteen like a showroom units," he explained. "Then eventually it will be 488 units for the next 4 or 5 years. So it's a big project preparing for the marines to come into Guam."

Sy may own the construction firm, but he built his fortune from a well-known cosmetics brand in the Philippines. He is chairman of Ever Bilena, a company he founded in 1983 with $20,000s and four employees.

"Now we have close to 1,800 employees in the Philippines," he said. "And we got more than 1,500 SKU's on the cosmetic lines. Fortunately, we are still blessed by our Lord, and we're still number one in the country, in Philippines."

He also created a fragrance brand Blackwater, and owns a Philippine professional basketball team named after the fragrance-basketball being another passion of his. Sy now has a new emerging passion, that reminds him of his early days as an entrepreneur.

"Actually, I came here for the first time two months ago, and I like what I'm seeing here in Guam, it's laid back," he said. "I feel like I went back into a time tunnel like Manila 1980s. And I like to help develop Guam, improve the lifestyle and everything."
