Obama picks Julian Aguon for leadership program

Posted: Updated:

Guam’s very own attorney Julian Aguon is one of 21 leaders from across the Asia Pacific region selected by former President Barack Obama and the Obama Foundation to “craft a course of action that addresses pressing issues, opportunities, and meaningfully contributes to positive change in the region,” a press release stated. The leaders, who are from 16 countries and territories across the Asia-Pacific region, recently attended a workshop in Hawaii to begin work on designing the program and explore solutions to shared challenges.

Obama, who spoke at the conference, acknowledged attorney Aguon for his work on indigenous rights. Aguon founded his own law firm, Blue Ocean Law, at 28-years-old. Along with serving as legal counsel for the Guam Legislature, he was also appointed Special Assistant Attorney General to defend the right for native inhabitants of Guam to choose their political status.
