Mother charged with killing her baby asks for legal funding

Posted: Updated:

The mother charged with killing her newborn will be asking the court for help to pay for costs associated with trial. Melissa Fuppul appeared in court on Monday morning.

According to defense attorney Curtis Van de Veld, he will be filing a motion for financial assistance - up to $1,500 - so his client may secure an expert witness.

It's alleged Fuppul concealed her pregnancy and delivered a baby girl in her bathroom.

Baby Norlisa died from suffocation.

A return hearing is set for Jan. 3.
