Dededo intersection leading to new Marine base completed

Posted: Updated:

The expansion of a key northern junction is finally finished. Officials cut the ribbon on the $7 million dollar Route 1 and 3 intersection widening and improvement project.  Funding was provided by the Defense department as part of the Marine relocation. Construction began in December 2016 and was projected to be completed last November.

Public Works Director Glenn Leon Guerrero explains, saying, "Finally we're here now. And I want to say thank you and I know a lot of the hardships, the challenges that we went through weren't necessarily the change orders. We ran into H2b issues that Maeda they hired subcontractors and the subcontractors that usually come up with sixty employees, when they came to work they had one or two or six people and stuff like that. But at the end of the day they made it happen."

The turning lanes from Marine Corps Drive to Route 3 which leads to the planned Marine Corps Base were widened and reinforced to accommodate heavy military vehicles. Route 3 is also undergoing similar expansion work.
