POWER RESTORATION UPDATE – AS OF 6pm Wednesday

Posted: Sep 12, 2018 8:42 PM +10:00 Updated:

The Guam Power Authority’s (GPA) systematic power restoration continues with approximately 74 percent of the island wide power system’s distribution feeder lines energized, power homes and businesses. The customer power generation load on the island wide power system was at 69 percent.

Throughout today, Wednesday, September 12, 2018, GPA crews reenergized several areas in Dededo, Tamuning, Mangilao, Pago Bay, Haganta and Yigo. Crews also cleared fallen trees and vegetation from power lines and replaced and repaired hardware damaged during Typhoon Mangkhut.

Ongoing, GPA crews continue working throughout the island and GPA will continue its round-the- clock work to restore power to every customer ready to receive service:

Northern Sector
Crews will be in the Ysengsong, Machanao areas of Dededo and in the Mataguac, Agafa Guma, Route 1, Gayinero, and Andersen Back Gate/Route 15 areas.
Central Sector

Crews will work to energize isolated areas along Route 10 Ta’I and Inalado areas of Mangilao. Vegetation clearing and reconstruction will continue throughout tonight. Crews will be in the Dero area in Ordot, Leyang, Old Price Road areas in Barrigada, Santa Teresita and UOG areas in Mangilao.

Southern Sector
Crews will continue restoration efforts in Agat and Santa Rita, moving toward Umatac, Inarajan, Merizo and Talofofo.

The Guam Power Authority crews are grateful to have the support of the community. Thank you for your patience as GPA works to restore power to all customers ready to receive power.

With the increasing number of areas within villages becoming energized, GPA is further asking the public for their cooperation and assistance to protect the health and safety of the line crews responding to outages and the general public.

1. PERSONAL GENERATOR OPERATIONS/SHUTTING OFF MAIN BREAKERS
• If you are operating a generator, especially a large generator, please SHUT OFF THE MAIN BREAKER(S) OF ALL THE HOUSE(S) OR BUILDING(S) THAT ARE CONNECTED TO YOUR GENERATOR. This will prevent a "back feed" of power from your generator unit into the Island Wide Power System.

• Also, when operating an emergency backup generator, follow the manufacturer’s instructions for safe operation. Your actions will prevent serious injury or death to GPA's line crews who are either clearing lines or energizing primary and secondary power lines across Guam.
• When operating personal generators to service homes or businesses, ensure that it is operating in an open, well-ventilated area to prevent adverse effects from the inhalation of fumes. Double check and make sure that your generator is not in an enclosed area or located next to an air conditioner air intake and/or other air ducts leading into the dwelling areas of homes or establishments.

2. SOLAR PV SYSTEMS/ SHUTTING OFF MAIN BREAKERS
• Excess electricity generated by grid-connected renewable energy systems returns electricity and is fed back into the power grid
• SHUT OFF THE MAIN BREAKER(S) OF ALL THE HOUSE(S) OR BUILDING(S) THAT CONNECTS YOUR SOLARY PVs to the island wide power system
• Always follow all the specific applicable electric codes.

3. DOWNED POWER LINES
• All fallen or downed power lines should be considered energized or “LIVE.” Do not attempt to make contact with the downed lines in order to avoid severe injury or death.
• Immediately call GPA's 24-Hour Trouble Dispatch at 475-1472/3/4 to report all downed power lines.

4. VEGETATION OVERGROWTH OR VEGETATION TOUCHING POWER LINES

• Immediately call GPA's 24-Hour Trouble Dispatch at 475-1472/3/4 to report all downed power lines.

## ###
Vegetation or tree contact with transmission and distribution lines is a leading cause of
electric power outages and affects system reliability.

Any power line contact with a tree can cause a short circuit which may lead to a blackout
or threaten public safety.
