A typhoon is still expected to impact Guam late Tuesday or early Wednesday

The tropical depression has now been named “Mangkhut” and will likely become a tropical storm later today.


According to the latest release from Guam Homeland Security/ Civil Defense when Mangkhut reaches Guam it could be a Category 3 or 4 typhoon.


· Category 3 Typhoon is referred to as a “Strong Typhoon” with maximum sustained winds of 111-129 mph and peak gusts of 140-164 mph.
· Category 4 Typhoon is referred to as a “Very Strong Typhoon” with maximum sustained winds of 130-156 and peak gusts of 165-198 mph.

Today we should expect mostly cloudy with scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms early, becoming partly cloudy with isolated showers around noon. As for tonight and Sunday you can anticipate partly cloudy with isolated showers.

Do not wait until the last minute, start preparations as soon as possible. No watches or warning are in effect right now but will likely change this weekend.
