Special investigating committee will look into GMH

Posted: Jun 15, 2018 5:00 PM Updated:

A special investigating committee will begin its review of the Guam Memorial Hospital. Senators passed a resolution authored by Senator Dennis Rodriguez Jr. Thursday night establishing the committee.

As reported, the hospital has been scrutinized for a slew of issues and most recently accused by former staff for multiple failures on management's part.

GMH leaders have since disputed the allegations made against them. The hospital is also awaiting a response from the Joint Commission on Accreditation regarding its proposed corrective action plan.

The legislative investigating committee includes Senators Rodriguez, Mary Torres, Joe San Agustin, Michael San Nicolas, and Fernando Esteves.

Now, the committee could also investigate the allegations of corruption at the Chamorro Land Trust Commission and the Guam Police Department if proposed amendments to the resolution are approved.

The committee is set to hold its first meeting within the next two weeks.
