Guam Customs agents who have seized 27% more prohibited agricultural items this fiscal year have been recertified.
The agency’s agriculture canine unit handlers recently passed the annual USDA recertification process. The six teams in the unit were tested in airport and cargo operations by USDA training specialists from the National Detector Dog Training Center. This annual process is carried out to ensure they meet federal standards when enforcing USDA regulations.
During this time last year, the ACU seized approximately 1,217.7 pounds of prohibited agricultural products, and since the beginning of FY2018, the unit has seized approximately 1,547.4 pounds.
