Guam community reacts to historic US-North Korea summit

The scare from North Korea had many of you responding whether we are actually safe.

Guam was once caught in the crossfire, as local US military veteran Pete Jesus told KUAM News, "It was scary and I don't think North Korea would do nothing about it. Just talk, talk, talk."  Jesus recalls the moments they learned North Korea directly threatened his home.  Security officials then issuing a slew of precautionary measures after news that it would only take 14 minutes for a missile to reach the island from North Korea.

Will Willamson had just left for a trip to the states when word of the threat spread across the globe, and said, "It was frightening because my children were here and I was back there for a couple of weeks and so after I found out they were found and everyone was not shuffling for cover it made me feel comfortable."

Others like Benny Gogue expressing how Guam should have never been involved. "Why should we be a target because of what the military and federal government involves themselves in. We had nothing to do with the Korean war so why should we suffer the consequences of what they are doing as so far as trying to bring peace...it should be between the Koreas if you ask me," he stated.

Fast forward nine months, and now a meeting between Trump and Kim is proving to offer the one thing many longed for. A woman named Yvonne commented by saying, "I want peace. We need peace. The whole world needs peace. That's the way I feel."

And Veronica Reyes said, "I feel relieved that they are meeting and hopefully we have peace."  Williamson added, "It's better than we've had before, finally sitting at the table of brotherhood."

A discussion those we spoke with hope will progress to finally make America and North Korea allies rather than enemies.
