Human rights lawyer Julian Aguon featured in MARC Seminar

Human rights lawyer Julian Aguon will headline the University of Guam Micronesia Area Research Center Seminar Series today, June 12, with the presentation, "The Way Forward is with a Broken Heart: Walking with the Marshallese on the Road to Redress."

 

Aguon, the founder of Blue Ocean Law specializing in complicated colonial issues, will focus on the some of the lesser known non consensual medical experimentation of Marshallese Islanders resulting from U.S. nuclear bomb testing.

He describes his presentation as quote, "The long road of redress of the slow but revealing facts of the effects that 67 nuclear detonations carried out in the Marshall Islands by the United States, its scope, and longevity of the devastation wrought on the Marshallese."

The MARC Seminar Series began in the 1970s as a way to promote the Micronesian Studies Program and encourage interest in the people, culture, history, and language in this region.

The June 12 seminar is free and open to the public. It will be held at 6:30 p.m. at UOG's CLASS Lecture Hall.
