Former UOG professor Dr. Michael Ehlert seeks acquittal

Posted: May 17, 2018 5:04 PM Updated:

Former UOG psychology Professor Dr. Michael Ehlert appeared before the Supreme Court of Guam to appeal his case. Ehlert was found guilty for sexual assaulting two out of three victims and was sentenced to 1.5 years in jail.

His counsel, Randall Cunliffe, raised different points of the case to Supreme Court Justices that need clarification, such as the jury instructions given that explained the use of force to the jury under different categories, but didn't specify the agreement on a particular category to constitute as a unanimous vote.

Cunliffe also brought up the issue of being acquitted on a charge when not enough evidence is found.

He argues that there was not sufficient evidence that Ehlert committed penetration on one of the victims, but was not acquitted of that charge after government presented their case.

Court is in recess until a decision is made.
