Governor Eddie Calvo has declared a state of mourning for the island following news of the passing of former Tamuning Mayor Frank Blas. A Mayor, Father, and Friend who many say strived to better his village.

Blas was Mayor of Tamuning for 8 years. He was 76 years old when he passed away, but his memory and legacy lives in the hearts of those who met him. Like, Angel Sablan, executive director of Mayor's Council, who remembers former Mayor Blas as a man ready to lend a hand. "He was a good man. the people of Guam especially Tamuning and Harmon lost a good man they could always depend on when they needed help," he said.

A Mayor fond of latte stones, Sablan says Blas always had latte stones placed at events to symbolize our culture and strength of his village. "I will never forget what he told me that the latte stone is a symbol of a strong foundation and what it meant to him especially for the people of Tamuning, Tumon, and Harmon," he shared.

Tamuning Mayor Louise Rivera says the latte stones also symbols of peace, saying, "Everyone talks about the beautiful latte stone rebar that he had placed out here in the park and that's how we started our latte peace festival."

Serving as his Vice Mayor, she says Mayor Blas set an example with his character, adding, "He was a perfect gentleman."

Speaker B.J Cruz sends condolences to the family stating " As a mayor, father, and friend-Frank worked tirelessly and gave generously so that his community could prosper .." Nightly masses will be celebrated at Saint Anthony Church at 6pm.
