Trial continues for Jeremiah Iseaki

Posted: May 15, 2018 5:24 PM Updated:

What did Jeremiah Isezaki mean when he allegedly said he wanted to take a cop off the streets? It appears key witness Janessa Corpuz and police had a different interpretation.

Trial resumed today for Isezaki who is charged with conspiracy to commit murder and terrorizing, both as felonies.

Corpuz returned to the stand for more cross-examination by defense.

Back in February 2012, she reports Isezaki came to her for help with GPD Officer Benny Babauta.

Specifically, Isezaki stated he wanted "to take him off the streets."

Corpuz telling jurors today "It could be to set a person up to make sure that he is not allowed to be in uniform and patrol our streets and abuse his authority."

Isezaki, she said, had strongly believed Babauta had set him up and planted a gun and drugs on him in a previous arrest.

A senior officer interpreted differently and believed the statement to be a plot to kill Babauta.

She also testified that police, at one point, accused her of being the mastermind behind the operation.

Lt. Babauta remains on the force and is assigned to support as the Acting Division Chief.

Trial will resume on Wednesday.
