Good vibes at FD Phoenix Wrestling Club Preseason Tourney

Good vibes at the FD Phoenix Wrestling Club Preseason Invitational Tournament. The friendly organized by FD coach Terry Debold after the IIAAG high school wrestling season was delayed for a month.

Coaches echoing the sentiment that it was good for the wrestlers to get out and hit the mats - they've been training since early September.

"It's really awesome seeing the kids for the first time, they get to get out their jitters," JFK Coach Jerome Fejeran said. "The more experienced wrestlers get to see what they've learned and maybe see how they've improved and see who else is out there in the league."

"Everyone was ready to rock and roll at the start of the season," Tiyan coach Nathan Tully said. "Now that we've got the friendly, they can start trying moves they're a little nervous on that they've been trying in training."

Over 60 wrestlers competing in 138 matches at the Jungle at FD, with the season ready to start this Saturday, wrestlers have been suffering through one of the longest delays in the history of IIAAG wrestling.

"It feels good wrestling with new people," JFK wrestler Masiko Nuther. The two-time All Island gold medalist is excited to hit the mat and she says she's not in it for the W. "Getting back on the mat, it's really fun, I'm not really into winning, I just want to have fun."

There's no doubt the island's wrestlers are ready to go.

"I was like super psyched for this season and it kept getting pushed back and pushed back and pushed back," TIyan wrestler Stacy Falagoy said. "So when I finally got on the mat, it was such a great feeling to get all my anxiety out and just get all the moves that I've learned, all the knowledge, it was so good to get it all out on the mat."
